Yellow-Rumped Tinkerbird Gallery

I photographed this Yellow-Rumped Tinkerbird on the western side of the island of Zanzibar in the garden of our beachfront hotel. Tinkerbirds are diminutive barbets found throughout the African tropic, distinctive for their repetitive bell-like call as well as their delicate patterning. This species is not uncommon at the edge and in the upper canopy of forests, and it ranges widely from East to West Africa. I would regularly hear Red-Fronted Tinkerbirds calling from the gardens around my house and place of work in Dar es Salaam, often ringing away for over a minute at a time.
